Raquel Martinez is a Catalan printmaker and visual artist based in London. She employs a particular printing technique called photopolymer gravure that is integral to her practice. The process is very technical (involving exposing plates with light, applying ink to them and then directly pressing them to paper – building up layers, or playing with colour and pressure). Martinez has great skill in this arena, having worked professionally as a printmaker for the last eight years.
Martinez’ prints are ethereal and captivating. Where the form of the shapes and the language of colour invites the audience to explore the space that has been constructed, creating an opportunity to interact with the works independently without direct description from the artist.
