INTRODUCING

Jasmine Brown-Rasé

ABSTRACT PAINTER/SCULPTOR

LONDON, ENGLAND

b. 1996

Practice

Jasmine Brown-Rasé is a London-based artist. Her practice is currently focussed on abstract painting, although she also has a successful graduate sculpture portfolio.

In the LATENT gallery you will find a selection of her paintings from a series categorised as ‘Lines.’ These works were produced in 2020 during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in the UK. A multitude of complex emotions felt by the Artist, are captured within the graphic lines and colours: uncertainty, frustration, fear, positivity and hope.

Brown-Rasé cites her heritage and upbringing (British, Jamaican and Mauritian) and conversations around mental health as key influences within her work. Her focus on the human gaze is evident through reappearing motifs of the eye, which Brown-Rasé describes as “the primary tool we use to ingest our surroundings”. The Artist has a keen interest in how we consume media, interpret, and understand the world we live in. Her use of constructivist and surrealist influences create complex landscapes that invite or provoke the viewer to explore and question the spaces created.
